Do you know what a hero is? A hero is a person of distinguished courage or ability. A person admired for brave deeds and noble qualities…a role model, an ideal.” A hero has integrity, compassion, likes helping those in need, has moral courage and likes doing what they know is right. There are heroes all around you. Firemen, teachers, nurses, parents, neighbors…in fact, you might be a hero.

Clay has said in the past that it is important for him to make a difference in the world. He is aware of how his celebrity makes him a role model. When he was asked who his role models were, he has given a few names. Sen. Tom Harkin, Pres. Jimmy Carter, Mr. Rogers and his mom Faye Parker are some we are highlighting. This section is dedicated to heroes...its a place where you can read about the lives of ordinary people who did extraordinary things. I bet you will see what makes them a hero to Clay.

We would also like to hear from you...and who you consider to be your hero. If you want to tell us about the person you look up to the most and what makes them admirable, just email us and we may feature your hero on our hero page.

  • In a letter to an elementary school on the celebration of their hero day, Clay wrote this:

Congratulations on your Idol/Hero Day….what a wonderful idea!

I know how important school is, so I wanted to write and wish you good luck! You guys are sort of in the same situation as I was in during American Idol. I had to perform every week and have judges tell me how I did. You have to take tests and you have teachers tell you how you did. Since we are all in the same situation, I wanted to give you some advice. I have learned that in order to be successful, I have to practice a lot. In order to be successful in school, you need to study hard and listen to your teachers.

And speaking of heroes, through the Bubel/Aiken Foundation we have set up a number of ways that you can give your time to help others. Work hard on your school work and with your volunteer projects and you will all be heroes! I will be rooting for you!

    Thank you!
