Toys for tots

MISSION : The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL: The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

Clay was the Toys for Tots spokeperson for the 2004 Christmas campaign. As the spokesperson, he made a Public Service Announcement that was used on television and radio. There were also donation boxes at his Joyful Noise concert venues and Clay fans were supportive as usual.

The 2004 Toys for Tots Campaign was the most successful in the 57 year history of the program. Over the course of the past 57 years (1947 – 2004), Marines have distributed over 332.5 million toys to 159 million needy children. During 2004, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation supplemented local Toys for Tots campaigns with 8.2 million toys valued at $41.2 million.

In a letter written by Major B. Grein from TFT, he said,

"Words can not express how we feel about what Clay Aiken fans have accomplished. Never before when we have had a Celebrity Spokesman for the Toys for Tots campaign has a fan base given of themselves on behalf of the Celebrity. We are truly thankful we were able to have Clay Aiken as our Spokesman, and are truly amazed at what his fans have accomplished. While the final results can not be calculated for some time, it is safe to say that Clay Aiken's fans have made a significant impact on our campaign this year. It is impossible to calculate the number of toys collected at the concert venues but we have received word that the TFT coordinators are overwhelmed by the generosity of Clay's fans. Thank you for sending our Marines to the concerts. You provided them with a "moment" to enjoy the Holiday Season, and quite an unexpected gift to all of them. They were thrilled to be able to see the concerts and were astonished that the fans thought of them. The toys donated literally counted in the thousands and we can not express enough our gratitude for all that Clay's fans have done."
